Dear Fellow Americans: You know and I know that we must have security, but it seems to me that we are far beyond security matters (such as controlling our borders, our passports, monitoring known hostiles and many known extremists who need to be expelled, never mind monitored.) In reference to Obama's Black Widow, an article by Nat Hentoff published in the Village Voice on 12-24-08, I really have trouble with the government investing its resources to monitor the entire population including those of us and our fathers, who labored to build this nation, while ignoring illegal immigration and our borders. It is as if we citizens will soon be living in a complete totalitarian police state, while our borders are wide open. What is the real priority here? This is an odd situation in which the control is being extended over American citizens while radicals and extremists are allowed to wander around freely, often supported by tax dollars, while plotting our destruction. What kind of Nazi Imperial Chemical Big Business Totalitarian Empire are we building here? I do not accept the fact that Uncle Bush or Uncle Bama should be monitoring my phones and emails in the interest of national security. This is a clear violation of the US Bill of Rights and all personal freedoms, especially privacy, to which we are all entitled. Everyone in the government, from recent and pending presidents, all congressmen, and all senators and both parties already know that Susan and I are reformers and sound off when we suspect greed, lack of ethics, and criminal activity which, unfortunately, is more often the case than not (and we do not exclude giant media, giant pharm, giant farming, giant militarism, and giant industry). Folks, things are out of hand with the Federal Reserve, that very privately owned beast, and in the House, in the Senate, and in the White House, throughout DC, in your state capitol, in many county seats, on many school boards, and, sad to say, in many churches, temples, and synagogues (because of silence, if nothing else. Silence purchased at the price of IRS tax exemption. Silence is a powerful and notable endorsement). Inaction and indifference will only continue to bind freedom loving Americans in heavy chains that cannot be cast off except at a high price and by great suffering. Remember this, we already live in times when Senators like Dodd and Reid, with their mouths stuffed full of campaign donations, are conducting hearings to investigate and judge their donors --- I suppose it is a case of hang them to try to avoid being hanged (or perhaps pretend to hang them while we figure out how to bail them out with tax dollars). We are living in times in which it is not even clear as to whether our President Elect is a citizen. Few of us even seem to notice that we routinely accept questionable characters and outright criminals to represent us in Washington. Let me just mention to you that we ARE the frogs in the warming water. The pigs ARE running the farm and have been changing the rules for a long time (Animal Farm), and we, all of us, really need to get a big heaping bowl of Wolfe Brand Chili and re-read Orwell’s 1984 while considering the true price of our present comfort. Stand for something now or perish for absolutely nothing later. Be informed. Be prepared. Trust yourself. Question your government. Ask where we will arrive by going along to get along?
